Just when you think the flurry of updates and patches is going to slow down, here's a few more. Many of these do not directly affect Emerson computers, but I mention them because they could impact people at home.
Open Office has released version 2.2.1 which corrects a couple significant vulnerabilities. Visit OpenOffice.org to learn more and download the latest version. For those who have never heard of this, Open Office is a free and open-source alternative to the Microsoft Office product suite. My personal commentary is that it is not quite ready to replace MS Office in most colleges or business, but it is quite adequate for most personal/home use. And it is free, so you can try it out before shelling out a lot of money for Microsoft Office.
McAfee, Symantec, and CLAM AV have all released updates for vulnerabilities in their AntiVirus software. If you use any of these products at home, you should make sure that your software is updated, in addition to ensuring your virus definitions are up to date.
Also, a very significant security flaw has been found in the Apple iPhone. To the best of my knowledge, no patches are available yet, but there is also no evidence of it being exploited either. Read the story here: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/23/technology/23iphone.html
