Big News for La Jetee Fans!!!

We have a new copy of Short 2: Dreams (DVD1292), and if you're really a La Jetee fan, you know that this collection contains one of the most haunting films of all time, in a version that looks great, and won't deteriorate before your eyes! That's the good news . . .

The bad news is that this version replaces the original French narration with English. C'est dommage. Why is nothing perfect?

Deja Ecoute?

With apologies for our inadequate French . . . We've added audio books to the media collection. Our newest, and so far only, acquisitions are:
The World is Flat, Thomas L. Friedman's update on globalization, Greogry Maguire's fantasy novel Wicked, and To Kill a Mockingbird, read by Sissy Spacek. The audio books are on CD, and circulate for 21 days. Check them out! If you like them, let us know--and if you have suggestions for new audiobook titles, let us know that, too.

It's That Time of Year Again . . .

That time when Media Services reveals the true horror that lurks behind the happy facade at the circulation desk . . . Yes, we're haunted, and not just by the actual skeleton we keep in the back room. We have a whole cryptful of horror films. Here are some staff picks:

Scream 2 (DVD 1121): a favorite of media assistant John R. because "the lighting is really good . . . the sound is really scary . . . I like the character of Gail Weathers, as played by Courtney Cox--but don't see this if you're squeamish!"

The Innocents (V 1315): It doesn't take much to scare the Media Librarian; just the idea of a governess trapped with two truly demonic kids. Check out this film version of Henry James' Turn of the Screw.

Happy Halloween!

More staff picks from among our truly terrifying titles:

Kit S, Angel: The Shining (DVD 243) features some pretty creepy kids too (see M.T's pick in last entry). It's the classic horror film about a family who become caretakers of an old hotel. Jack Nicholson stars as the father who goes screepily insane. Remember, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

John T, F.B: Millennium (Seasons 1 & 2, DVD 689, 690) is a thriller created by Chris Carter featuring a former FBI profiler with the ability to see inside the minds of murderers. As the change of the Millennium approaches, paranormal homicides and crimes begin to increase exponentially. Millennium remains one of the most deeply disturbing series in television history!
