Preview Opportunities . . .of special interest to Communication Studies and Disorders

We have preview copies of 3 sign language-related Fanlight Film productions available in Media Services till the end of classes:
See What I'm Saying follows a 4 year old as she is introduced to ASL, contrasting the child's obvious frustration and isolation at home before she begins attending an early education program at Gallaudet University with her happiness and improved family relationships after a year of sign language instruction.
A Sign of the Times profiles an energetic sign language coach at an urban public high school who works with student athletes. You'll come away with an appreciation for the physical demands of signing, and admiration for the commitment required by both parties in working out a communicative relationship.
Voices in a Deaf Theater documents preparation for a Gallaudet College production of The Glass Menageriewhich uses a double cast of hearing and deaf actors. Subtle differences in signing style, and the challenges of blending deaf and hearing actors in a creative project make fascinating viewing.

If you 'd like to view these videos, just stop by Media Services and view them in-house, making sure to leave your comments regarding purchase consideration. Or if you want to borrow them for a day or two, email me, and we'll set something up.

Are we having fun yet? End of term madness . . .

As we stumble through the waning days of the semester, the Media Librarian doesn't want to add to your mental overload or distract you from your academic chores! Instead, she will try to find helpful resources to reduce some of your end of term stress.

Need to slog through a paper on ummmm, say screwball comedy? Check out the helpful "primers" on GreenZinehttp://www.greencine.com/main, a DVD review site which, under "stories" gives brief introductions to various genres, including lists of recommended titles. Note: these primers are no substitute for the reading/viewing you should have been doing all term, but they might help you organize your thoughts. And the whole site is fun to browse.

Good luck!

Yeah, we have sound effects on CD here in Media Resources. But at the end of the term you can bet that we will have birds chirping, hamburgers frying, coffee beans being ground, liquid being poured over ice into glass . . . every sound conceivable EXCEPT the one you need NOW!
