Celebrating Black History Month . . .Check Out These Videos, Literally

In honor of Black History Month, Deja Vu will be highlighting titles from our collection that focus on the ASALH Black History theme for 2007: the transition from slavery to freedom of peoples of African descent in the Americas.

Our selected titles include feature films and documentaries, but all give information about or illuminate the struggle for freedom that is a defining theme in African American history. These are films that deserve your attention--and to make sure they get it, we're letting students check them out, for 24 hours or over a weekend, during the month of February! The complete list of titles is available at the Media Services circulation desk, Ansin Building, third floor.

Forward . . . educational videos online, anywhere!

Faculty, now you can make some of our media resources available to your students via the Internet . . . and students, you can view these videos from the comfort of your own computer station (much nicer than Media Services' little viewing cubicles)

Our collection of selected titles from Films Media Group is up and running, and easier than ever to use! The link is below, or simply go to the Media Services website and click on FMG on Demand, and you'll have access to the 18 films we're currently leasing. The titles range from Barbie's Midlife Crisis to Samuel Beckett: Three Plays. Please let the Media Librarian know if you have any suggestions for other Film Media Group titles you'd like to see added to the collection, or if you would like to set up your own playlists or class folders using these titles.

Tell us what you think! If you have any questions or comments about the FMG online collection, please contact us. We are very interested in getting feedback--should we add more program titles? Are you satisfied with the way the images look in your classroom?

And in the meantime, remember there's lots of free and interesting stuff streaming on the web:
Frontline and Nova programs, older short films available for viewing or downloading from The Internet Archive Moving Image Archive, and quality educational video from Annenberg (you need to register, but it is free) Check out the links below:
