More preview parties on the horizon!

After a brief hiatus, our lunch-time preview sessions are starting again next Wednesday, July 25, 12:00 p.m. in the Media Services Center. This time, our preview du jour will be The Ballad of Greenwich Village: Culture and Counter-Culture.

Anyone involved in the Common Reading and Viewing Experience might find this interesting--of course, if you can't make the preview session, you are welcome to borrow the DVD overnight. We'll have it here till July 27.

YouTube Presidential Debate on reserve

The questions were great, the answers . . . well, not so much.
Though some of the candidates had some good moments.
Of course, you can watch it at youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/debates
and it is a spectacularly surreal experience to play the responses to several questions at once--
but if you'd like to watch it in linear fashion, feel free to check out our off-air recording. Just ask for it at the Media Services desk.

Cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs has died . . .

His life was courageous and filled with adventure--he lived through World War II, the Nazi occupation of his country Hungary, and a Soviet takeover of Hungary--from which he fled, over the Austrian border, carrying film he shot of Hungarian resistance to the Soviets. http://www.cameraguild.com/magazine/stoo1298a.htm

No wonder his work on films like Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, New York, New York, The Last Waltz, and Mask was risk-taking and influential--the man took film seriously. Check out these films--all in our collection.
