February Suggestions

Suggestion: "Students should be allowed to borrow videos. It is impractical to force them to watch on the schedule of Media Services and on site.'

-This suggestion comes up often, and the Library Director is looking into the pros and cons. The collection is designed to be a teaching/learning resource, and if students (or faculty for that matter) return video late, classes could be disrupted, the syllabus for a class thrown off, students assigned to view videos inconvenienced--you get the picture.
On the other hand, given the size of our collection and our limited inhouse viewing options, circulating to students seems like a cost-effective way to get the most value from our resources.
In the meantime, remember SOME videos are available for student circulation--for example, the videos on our Celebrating African American History Month list. Other titles will replace those next month--watch this space!

Suggestion: "Soundproof the viewing rooms ASAP. It would benefit anyone who wants to hear the audio of whatever they are watching."

-Alas, the Media Librarian does not have the power to grant your request. BUT here are two ways to improve your viewing/listening experience:
1. Ask for headphones when you pick up your video at the desk.
2. If you are viewing with others, ask if the conference room is available.

Suggestion: "Purchase "Outfoxed" Rupert Murdocks War on Journalism. It's been missing since October. Please replace!"

- It has been replaced, and it's ready for viewing!

Suggestion: "Make Booth F a smoking booth."

-Hmmmm . . . good idea. NO! Such a thing would be illegal, not to mention the risk to our precious media collection! Besides, you shouldn't be smoking. check out Pack of Lies: The Advertising of Tobacco (V 1148). You're being exploited!

Suggestion: "Buy Deadwood and Entourage Season 3".

- The first season of Deadwood and Entourage Season 3 have been added to our student request wish list, which means we will get them in for inhouse viewing for a 2 week period in March. Check here, or on the suggestion board at Media Services to find out when they arrive.
