I attended my second Banner training with the Business and Finance staff the second week in January. Note to myself: Attending the Navigation segment of the training made everything easier. It's like finally figuring out how ma organized the kitchen so you can get to the food faster.
Training is underway or being planned for departments using each of Banner’s core administrative systems, namely, student, finance, human resources, enrollment management, and advancement. Department managers meet with a consultant specializing in their functional area to plan for migration to and implementation of Banner. Staff members will get trained after some “nuts and bolts” have been put in place. For example, managers in the Business and Finance office, the first Emerson department slated to go live (exclusively using Banner) in July of 2008, have been meeting with a Banner financial consultant. Staff members in Accounting, Purchasing and Accounts Receivable have been attending training, which comprises basic Banner overview and navigation as well as data query and entry in the finance modules. Student services (Registrar, SAS, etc.) have also attended training recently.
Banner training typically runs three full days-from Tuesday through Thursday. In upcoming months, training is scheduled for (1) Banner self-service, (2) the Congnos data report writing tool using databases from (3) Operational Data Store, (real-time data) and databases from (4) Enterprise Data Warehouse (historical data) as well as (5) the Luminus web portal, all products being part of the ERP suite. There are, of course, more training scheduled for departments in their functional areas.
IT staff has also attended some of these training sessions, as well as technical training for when we get ready to lay down the foundation (servers), roofing, flooring, insulation (security), walls, wiring, piping (network). It all may already be put in place, for all I know.
