Comment/Suggestion

This looks too much like a muggle library, and not enough like the libraries in Harry Potter. Please redecorate. :)

What a wonderful idea! Sometimes, it’s nice to know that your ideal library really exists. So, check out the Suzzalo Library reading room at the University of Washington. Rumor has it that UW students call it “The Harry Potter Room.” It’s worth a trip to Seattle! And, we’ll work on getting those vaulted ceilings here at Emerson.

Staff Pick: Global Voices Online

globalvoices1.jpg Are you a news junkie? Are you curious to know what’s been going on in Kyrgyzstan lately? Would you like to know what ordinary people around the world have to say about human rights, music, literature, their governments, and more?

Global Voices Online is the place for you to explore these and other issues not typically covered by English language press. Using an extensive network of translators and dedicated volunteers, this site “seeks to aggregate, curate, and amplify the global conversation online –shining light on places and people other media often ignore.”

Exploring the site by country, topic, or author is easy –tag clouds give a sense of who, where, and what is making news in the global blogosphere.

But Beautiful: a book about jazz, Geoff Dyers, please. I could really use it for my research paper.

Book Recommendation

HIGHSCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL

Do you mean the recent book by Jeremy Iversen?
We do have the 1958 film in the media collection.

Journal Recommendation

I don't believe that the library has any issues of the Berkeley Beacon. This is our school's paper!

Actually, we have every issue of The Berkeley Beacon back to 1947! They’re in the Archives. Please make an appointment with the Archivist by calling (617) 824-8679. Or fill out the request form at http://www.emerson.edu/library/archives/archives-request.cfm.
