Yar, mateys! September 19th is International Talk like a Pirate Day. Be sure to color your conversations by adding some extra "arrr"s, a few "scurvy dogs" and the occasional reference to your parrot or peg leg. Feel like you don't know enough about pirates in order to imitate them? Ahoy then, the library has what ye seek. Sail over to our new media circulation desk and ask for Captain Blood starring Errol Flynn. Or, if your inner pirate is musically inclined, belt out a few selections from Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. In fact, the library's archives has authentic libretti from a number of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. You can kick back and read about pirates in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island and Kidnapped. Or prepare your pirate thesis by perusing the 1895 biography of Captain Avery, self-proclaimed 'King of pirates.' If you've only got time for a quick read between classes, leaf through The Pirate Queen from our children's literature collection. A world of piracy is only a keyword search away!
