It is that time of year again. Our new viewing rooms are perfect for Halloween mini-film fests. The Media Librarian's scary pick of the day is . . .
The Bad Seed.
It isn't really a horror movie, per se. But it certainly horrified me when I was about the same age as the demonic little Rhoda Penmark. Inexplicably, movies like this were often broadcast on TV when I was supposed to be doing my homework. Now that I'm a parent, The Bad Seed is as scary as ever. Time for a remake of this one, I think.
The IMDB summary is wrong about Rhoda's age--she certainly is not an adolescent--she is eight years old. That's what makes her innocent evil so creepy--any old teenager can commit a violent crime, but a sweet little girl? I remember feeling sympathy for her when her classmate beat her out for the penmanship award. Check it out--DVD 569.

Definitely a creepy movie. Since it's an older movie, for some reason it seems kind of harmless at first, but it's a pretty decent take on the nurture vs nature question.
