Darwin Day approaches,

darwin.jpg

and what better way to celebrate than by learning all about evolution, via the PBS Evolution miniseries??? Feb. 12 will be the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth. If you don't have time to watch the entire eight hours, surely you can watch the first segment, Darwin's Dangerous Idea. (DVD 586A)
Or if you prefer to honor Darwin via fiction, check out Inherit the Wind (DVD 570), Stanley Kramer's film about the Scopes Monkey Trial, which debated evolution versus creationism.

Dan:

Having seen Inherit the Wind, I can only echo the remarks of the NYTimes review - "For with a dramatic face-off between Spencer Tracy and Fredric March, the two unsurpassable actors persuaded to play the roles, Mr. Kramer has wonderfully accomplished not only a graphic fleshing of his theme but he also has got one of the most brilliant and engrossing displays of acting ever witnessed on the screen."

It's a great picture, and contains some marvelous performances from a gem of a script. Truly ahead of its time.
