Ooof.

That New Yorker Films has gone out of business is tragic news for anyone who loves film. It's possible that much of their collection will be out of distribution for the foreseeable future, making it difficult to impossible to show and see hundreds of important films. Now to mention that many wonderful film people are now out of jobs in the worst of times.

Most folks interested in the New Yorker collection will probably only be interested in DVD and streaming rights, putting the film prints particularly at risk in terms of being available again. Note to self: try to get key New Yorker videos while they are still in stock. And be thankful to have held on to their excellent catalogs.

And if that weren't enough, take this:

The Media Librarian has worked closely with these folks for many years, and while, Internet radio may be a fine and worthy thing, she is disgusted that a treasure like the Coop has to be displaced by it!!!

Here's an online petition for those who are as outraged as the Media Librarian.
