Why did you choose Emerson College for Graduate School?
I chose Emerson because I liked the balance of literature and workshop classes, the reputation of the program, and the ability to branch out from my major genre and explore other genres. I also liked the idea of working with publishing students and the opportunity to teach undergraduate classes.

What is the favorite aspect of your program?
My favorite aspect of the program is the respectful and supportive community made up by the students and professors. I have never had a workshop experience like I have had here at Emerson.

What do you like best about living in Boston?
My favorite part of Boston is all the culture and activities happening in the city. I spend every Friday simply exploring Boston and I always find something new and exciting. There are writers always doing readings, not only on campus, but in different book stores and through the Boston Public Library.

What is the best piece of advice you would give someone considering or entering grad school?
For those considering grad school, I would suggest the person make sure they really want the degree and the work and to find a program that really fits them. For those entering grad school, I would suggest some celebration on being accepted and to take their studies seriously but enjoy some time with fellow classmates.

Why should prospective graduate students visit Emerson?
Prospective graduate students should visit Emerson because by visiting Emerson they can fully imagine their life as an Emerson graduate student and they can discover if they fit into the city campus.

What is the most surprising thing you've discovered about yourself in graduate school?
I think the most surprising thing I've discovered about myself in graduate school is how much I thrive in a community of writers with different ideas, goals, and interests.

How do you believe your Emerson College degree will affect your future?
My MFA degree will allow me to teach at the university level, but the process of getting my Emerson degree will develop my skills and talents as a writer.
