The Fight for the Battlegrounds Heats Up
By Elyce Taylor -- September 14, 2008
Up, down, and back and forth....that's about the only way to describe this presidential election's poll numbers in the key battleground states. Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama still seems to hold the lead in Iowa with 52% of the vote. But Republican candidate John McCain has shattered Obama's 12-point lead in Minnesota. Both surveys have a margin of error plus or minus four percentage points. Now the two candidates each hold 45% of the vote. Many speculate the Republican National Convention influenced the fluctuation in the polls. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has said he thinks that although his state might be open to a candidate like John McCain, the Democrats still had the advantage. It's a similar situation in New Hampshire and Michigan where Obama has a slim lead. Meanwhile, McCain has inched ahead
in Missouri and Virginia.
