On March 3, 2009, the city of Boston announced that it would be working to create a city-wide bike share program.
"bike share has the potential to make metro-Boston a world-class bicycling destination by creating safe and inviting conditions for all residents and visitors," said Mayor Menino.
In this radio broadcast, you will hear about the city's hopes for its bike share program and the "request for proposals" that is seeking out companies interested in building the bike share system. By spring 2010, the city is planning to initially build 150 public stations around the Boston area where people will be able to rent from over 1,500 bicycles.
The bike share program is being headed by Nicole Freedman, director of Boston Bikes, and is supported by politicians like Jim Hunt, chief of Environmental and Energy Services and city councilor John Connolly.
