Shopping with my parents before college was quite an interesting day. Well, just to remind the reader, I was born in India - but I grew up in Lima, Peru, so going shopping with my parents is an unusual story. First of all my father didn't even fly with my to Boston, I came with my mother. I was clueless regarding places to go or even what to do - my mom saved me! As soon as I got to my new dorm room, I saw an empty bed for the first time, a laundry machine and a small little room, I said to myself, "Where am I??" Thank god for my mom and her credit card she bought me all the necessities. My point here is that I came unprepared for on-campus living because I assumed the college was going to give me all the necessary things to survive and, clearly, I was wrong. Come prepared and shop ahead of time!

This is very good advice. I absolutely LOVED going shopping for my dorm room stuff. I finally felt like an adult having my own place to live away from my parents, with my own furniture and possessions. It is very important to come prepared, the only thing a dorm room will supply you with is a bed and MAYBE a desk. You have to get everything else yourself :).
i also love shopping with my mom.remember when i first went to dorm my mom bought all the stuff i needed from the shop & she did shopping for me almost 6 hours to buy stuff i needed.i had no idea i would be needing all that but it turn out i used all that stuff.
