Piano Row and the Little Building (pics included)

As a sophomore, I have now lived in three Emerson housing situations and have loved each of them. Freshman year, I had the pleasure of living in a 6-person Piano Row suite. First semester of sophomore year, I lived in a 4-person Little Building Suite. Currently, I'm living in a triple in the tower of Emerson's very own castle in the Netherlands. While I could go on and on about each of these situations, I feel that a pro v. con list would be the mos...

One Last California Summer

Since I graduated in late May and didn't move in to Emerson until early September, I had a long summer. It was probably the most relaxing three months of my life. For the first time in years, I didn't have any AP summer reading or sports preseason conditioning to take up time. While I had a job, it was at a summer day camp, so I had all my nights and weekends free.

Throughout the summer, I tried to soak in as much of the sunshine as humanly p...

The Museum of Fine Arts

Let me preface this post by saying that I love Boston and have found countless wonderful places in the city. One of my favorite places to go is the Museum of Fine Arts. The MFA has a phenomenal art collection, is a short T trip away, and is free for Emerson students.

The museum is currently under construction as they expand, which will give them room for even more art. Aside from their permanent collection,...

A Dying Breed?

Is print journalism dead? Are journalists a dying breed? These questions have been a topic in just about every journalism course I have been in at Emerson. As a print and multimedia journalism major, it's a little scary to see that my future career is getting sized down every day and to hear print is dead. However, my courses at Emerson have taught me that though the medium may change, journalism is still about reporting the truth.

No matter...

First Impressions

My first visit to Emerson was in the dead of winter during February of my senior year. My parents made me wait until after I had been accepted before allowing me to jet across the country to look at colleges. Or maybe my parents thought the freezing cold weather would make me want to stay in California. Either way, I found myself alone and ankle-deep in snow during President's weekend.

At Emerson, I sat in on an information session, took a to...

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

One of the first things I did when I got home was meet up with my best friend at our favorite coffee shop. Once we sat down with our tea and cookies, we started talking about the past semester at college. We shared about our social lives, classes, interesting people we've met, and about our professors.

My friend was a little surprised that I knew my professors and had talked to them outside of class. To me, it didn't seem strange that my pr...

In 26 days, I will be leaving California to go back to Boston. In 29 days, I will be leaving Boston to begin my semester at Emerson's castle in the Netherlands. I don't think it has really hit me that I'll be living in Europe for a semester. I'll be taking classes, living in an restored 14th century castle, and traveling around Europe every weekend.

Here is my tentative traveling list in no particular order:
-Amsterdam, the Netherland...

Connected

This past Monday, rather than finishing up work for my final projects, I decided to go on coffee dates with a few of my friends that are leaving Boston. Two very good friends are getting ready to head out into the real world and I can't be more excited for them. However, at the same time, I will miss them dearly. One friend is going to Los Angeles for the LA Program, while my other friend is going to Chicago.

I met both girls during my second...

My Favorite Night at Emerson

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0)

Later this week, one of my favorite biannual Emerson events will occur. The Late Night Buffet. Each semester, for one night during finals week, the dining hall opens its doors and serves up one of the best stress relievers that I have found at Emerson. From 9:30pm until 11:00pm, students take a study break to eat all manner of deliciously unhealthy foods.

There are three reasons why I love the late night buffet so much.

1. Food: Th...

Amidst the Commotion of College, a Setting for Solitude

Last year, while living on the 12th floor of Piano Row, I stumbled upon one of my favorite spots on campus: the 13th floor common room. The 13th floor common room of Piano Row is a place of quiet escape that I found a month or so into my freshman year. Since the suites in Piano Row are equipped with their own common room, the floor common rooms are generally free from people and distractions.

One day in October, around midterm time, I needed t...
