To All of the Incoming Freshman Out There...

This is my final blog of the semester (I know you're all so terribly torn up about that, too!), so I am going to try and pass along some words of wisdom about how to best get involved and meet people during your freshman year.

The week between move-in and classes is called Freshman Orientation Week. This is where I met most of my freshman year friends and even my first college boyfriend. As cheesy as some of the activities may sound, try to go t...

End of the Semester Insanity!

| | Comments (1) | TrackBacks (0)

There are officially three weeks left in the 2008-2009 school year, but who's counting?

Just like in high school, the end of the semester can be a very stressful time. Final papers, projects, test, etc. - it's enough to drive a person mad! Still, we Emersonians know how to mix the excessive studying and paper writing with fun.

As today is the Boston Marathon, we don't have class. So, to take advantage of this 3-day weekend, those of us o...

Piano Row vs. Little Building (with pictures!)

My freshman year, I lived in a six-girl suite in Piano Row. My roommate was a musical theatre major from Minnesota. We got along surprisingly well, considering we had very little in common and ran in polar opposite circles of friends. Our other suite mates were also great (most of the time!). In fact, I now share an apartment with one of my suite mates from my freshman suite.

My sophomore year, I lived in another six-girl suite, except this one ...

Farewell, Murfreesboro

I will never forget the final day and night in my hometown of Murfreesboro, Tennessee before moving to Boston to attend Emerson. I was scheduled to move into Piano Row on a Sunday, so my parents and I were taking a flight out from Nashville early on Saturday morning.

By the time I was leaving for college, most of my other friends from high school had already left. In early August, my old gang had one final get together at my friend Kat's house. ...

Boston Rock City

As stupid as this sounds, when I was looking at colleges, one of the factors that I considered was whether or not the city had a good live music scene. Austin, Texas and Athens, Georgia were both high on my list. Having grown up in Nashville, a town almost always skipped by my favorite bands, I was desperate to move to a city that wasn't constantly forgotten by my musical heroes.

Few things make me happier than going to see live music. My very f...

Almost Famous

When I was about 12 years old, I saw a movie that changed my life: Cameron Crowe's semi-autobiographical Almost Famous. I wanted to be just like William Miller, following bands all over the country and writing about them for Rolling Stone. In high school, I pursued my journalism dream by taking journalism classes and even spending a summer at the Georgia Journalism Academy at UGA.

Flash forward to my first week at Emerson: afte...

Applying Early, Visiting Later

I actually submitted my early admission application to Emerson even though I had never stepped foot on their campus!

It's funny to think about the fact that my very first exposure to Emerson was in the Visitor Center and now I work there. It's so funny how life works!

My parents and I attended an information with Sara Brookshire, a new admission counselor and Emerson graduate. Having already applied, I knew most of the information about ...

Essays, Finals, and Projects, Oh My!

So...erm...where exactly did the fall semester go? I feel like only yesterday, my professors were handing out syllabi and I was wearing skirts and t-shirts to class. Now, there's a tiny bit of snow on the ground and I'm writing my final papers.

Earlier today, I presented my final paper in my music class at Berklee. I got to talk about Britpop (my favorite thing ever) for a good ten minutes and subject my classmates to "Wear Me Down" by ...

CMJ 2008

Last night, my fellow WECB managers and I returned home from a week-long excursion in New York City at the annual College Music Journal Festival. I think it's safe to say that being able to attend CMJ is a major perk of being the assistant music director at WECB!

I attended a panel on music publishing, which was somewhat informative. I'm really interested in the actual publishing of sheet music instead of licensing. I never got a chance to ask t...
